Event Code of Conduct

At BOMA BC, we strive to create events that are welcoming, safe, and respectful for everyone. This Code of Conduct applies to all BOMA BC events. It applies to all members, guests, vendors, sponsors, and speakers.

Purpose

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to ensure a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all participants at BOMA BC events. We are committed to fostering an inclusive community where everyone feels valued and respected.

Expected Behavior

  • Be Respectful: Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Be polite, listen to others, and avoid offensive or hurtful language.
  • Be Inclusive: Make sure everyone feels welcome. Discrimination or exclusion based on race, gender, age, disability, or other personal characteristics is not allowed.
  • Act Professionally: Always maintain a professional attitude. Be mindful of how your behavior reflects on you, your company, and BOMA BC.
  • Responsible Alcohol Use: If alcohol is served, drink responsibly. Ensure your behavior always stays appropriate and respectful.
  • Be Safe: Always be aware of the safety of others and yourself. Report unsafe or inappropriate situations to event organizers.
  • Respect Privacy and Confidentiality: Do not share any confidential or sensitive information you learn at BOMA BC events without permission. Respect the privacy of others, including taking and sharing photos or videos.

Unacceptable Behavior

The following actions are not allowed at any BOMA BC event:

  • Harassment, bullying, or intimidation
  • Discrimination based on race, gender, age, disability, or other personal characteristics
  • Inappropriate physical contact or unwanted attention
  • Excessive drinking or drug use
  • Disruptive or unsafe behavior
  • Sharing private information or taking photos without permission

Examples of Misconduct: This includes verbal abuse, inappropriate jokes, offensive gestures, unwelcome flirting, or interrupting speakers or sessions.

Bystander Responsibility

If you witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, we encourage you to step in if it is safe to do so or report the behavior to a BOMA BC staff member or event organizer. Everyone has a role in ensuring a positive and respectful event environment.

Reporting a Concern

If you experience or witness behavior that goes against this Code of Conduct, please report it to a BOMA BC staff member or event organizer as soon as possible. Your concern will be taken seriously, and we will address the situation discreetly.

Investigation Process

When a report is made, BOMA BC will promptly investigate the matter. This may include speaking with the individuals involved, reviewing any available evidence, and consulting with third parties if needed. All investigations will be handled confidentially, and decisions will be made fairly and objectively.

No Retaliation

BOMA BC prohibits retaliation against anyone who raises a concern or reports misconduct. Any form of retaliation will be treated as a serious violation of this Code of Conduct.

Consequences of Misconduct

If someone is found to have broken this Code of Conduct, they may face consequences, including:

  • A verbal or written warning
  • Being asked to leave the event
  • Being banned from future BOMA BC events
  • A suspension or cancellation of membership

The severity of the consequences will depend on the nature of the violation.

Appeal Process

If a member disagrees with a decision made about their behavior, they have the right to appeal. The appeal must be submitted in writing to BOMA BC within 14 days of the decision. An independent committee will review the appeal and make a final decision.

By attending BOMA BC events, all members and their guests agree to follow this Code of Conduct. We appreciate your cooperation in creating a positive and respectful environment for everyone.
